Friend, UNICEF is driven by a commitment to ensure that all children, no matter where they live or what their circumstances, have a fair chance in life.
This focus on inclusion is especially clear in UNICEF’s work to reach the estimated one in ten children — approximately 240 million children — living with disabilities worldwide.
Children with disabilities are more likely to face discrimination, lack access to routine medical services, be undernourished and have never attended school. In addition, ongoing challenges like disruptions to social services, often caused by emergency situations, are exacerbated for children living with disabilities.
UNICEF is working to change that — by ensuring that children living with disabilities have access to the resources and care they need to thrive.

UNICEF envisions a world where all children, including those with disabilities, live in barrier-free and inclusive communities. A world in which children with disabilities are embraced and receive support to realize their rights and achieve their full potential.
Together, we’re helping advance the rights of children with disabilities as UNICEF:
- Promotes awareness to prevent stigma, discrimination, neglect and violence against children with disabilities
- Advocates for and invests in disability-inclusive infrastructure, services and programs including educational opportunities and psychosocial support
- Ensures access to community care and support services such as assistive technology that allows children to thrive
- Takes disability-inclusive action in emergency settings and crisis situations
