The Cruz campaign privately warned donors this week of a neck and neck race with Colin Allred.
After Colin Allred won the Texas Senate Democratic primary, Ted Cruz wanted to make it immediately known to the public that he doesn’t view the Allred campaign as an existential threat to his own reelection bid.
But behind closed doors, it’s another story, John.
Our friends at The Houston Chronicle have reported that Cruz’s Senate campaign has been warning donors recently that Cruz is not only neck and neck with Allred — but that the Cruz campaign is bracing for a much tougher election fight ahead.

While we’re not in the business of making predictions — this isn’t good news for Ted Cruz.
This new revelation comes a little more than a week after the primaries and almost six years after Beto O’Rourke almost defeated our part-time senator.
John, in 2018, Texas voters almost did what many pundits have long considered to be unthinkable — sending a Democrat to the Senate.
This time around we’re going to make sure we Cut Cruz from the Senate for good. But we’ll need your support to make this vision a reality.
So if you can — chip in $5 or anything that makes sense for you to power our grassroots movement to Cut Cruz in November.
