John, our state has a strong history as a home to women who've stood up for what's right –
Like our amazing Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, and Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks have all fought to represent women's voices and to make our state a place we can all be proud to call home.
Like Mona Hanna-Attisha, the pediatrician, professor, and public health advocate whose research exposed the water crisis in Flint.
Like Daisy Elliot, the Former State Representative and Civil Rights Leader, who co-authored and introduced the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, which passed in 1976 and added prohibited discrimination in education, employment, housing, and other public accommodations in Michigan for the first time.
Like the unforgettable historic figure Rosie the Riveter, a symbol of the power of women and the critical role they had in the workforce during WWII. Inspired by Michigan's own Rose Will Monroe, Rosie the Riveter is a cultural and feminist icon to this day.

Emily first learned the importance of community and helping others from her mom, a nurse, and dad, a manufacturing representative, while growing up in a tight-knit, middle-class Midwestern family.
The proud product of public schools, Emily worked hard in and out of the classroom, balancing her studies and interest in performing arts with an after-school job as a cashier at Ace Hardware. She went on to earn her B.A. in Biology from Indiana University and Masters from Michigan State University.
Now, Emily is running for Congress in Michigan’s 10th District to keep our kids safe, protect our rights, and lower costs for Michigan families.
Emily chose to move to Oakland County two decades ago because it was the place she wanted to raise her family – a place with friendly neighbors, good schools, and safe neighborhoods.
She and her husband, a retired firefighter and Marine, enjoy camping, fishing, and visiting national parks in their free time.
