March is Social Work Month. As caring professionals who work directly with individuals and families in their communities, social workers are in a unique position to identify suicide risk and take action to help save lives.

This Tuesday, March 19 at 4pm ET, join us for our livestream event, "Social Work and Suicide Prevention: Empowering Support in Black Communities." Moderated by AFSP Vice President for Health Equity and Engagement Victor Armstrong, MSW, this panel discussion will examine what is unique about the social work perspective in suicide prevention, and particularly the perspective of Black social workers and Black women social workers in this space. Armstrong will also explore with panelists the need for more Black social workers, and how those in the field can encourage help-seeking and provide support for people in distress and those who care for them.

Joining Armstrong for this panel conversation are:

- Dr. Kyaien Conner, PhD, LSW, MPH –– Professor, Endowed Chair and Associate Dean for Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, and Director of the Center on Race and Social Problems
- Dr. Janelle Goodwill, PhD, MSW, MS –– Neubauer Family Assistant Professor in the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice at the University of Chicago, with research centering on suicide and depression among Black Americans
- Dr. Sonyia Richardson –– Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work, Director of the Race and Social Equity Research Academy, and the Founder and Director of the Mental Health Research and Practice Lab at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte

We hope you'll join us for this important event! Tune in on Tuesday, March 19 at 4pm ET, on [youtube.com/afspnational]([link removed]) or [facebook.com/afspnational]([link removed]).
