Dear John,
The Republican Party’s chosen nominee for Governor of North Carolina absolutely wants “to go back to the America where women couldn’t vote.”
Don’t believe me? Watch it for yourself.
Before 2016, many may have shrugged a threat like this off, thinking there is no way this can happen. But the last eight years have shown us just what is possible.
Since Donald Trump’s election in 2016, federal protections for women in this country have been systematically dismantled by the Republican leadership.
Women's rights -- including access to equal pay, contraception, abortion, IVF treatments, and protections against harassment and sex-based workplace discrimination -- have fundamentally changed since Donald Trump’s presidency and continue to be decimated by conservative judges at every level nationwide.
So when a candidate says he wants “to go back to the America where women couldn’t vote,” we can’t think that could never happen.
We can’t think, well, that’s in North Carolina, and I’m safe here in California.
And we can’t think that conservative leaders like these, who Trump and the MAGA community have propelled, will go away without a fight.
This Women’s History Month, I ask you to stand with me and fight against the conservative, extreme politicians who would like to set women and our country back rather than move all of us forward.
