Passing Bipartisan Legislation to Combat Communist China
TikTok is not just an app; it is a tool utilized by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to spy on over 170 million Americans. Despite repeated denials from TikTok executives, the CCP has access to American data, and they are using it against our country.
The CCP has passed a series of laws requiring all Chinese tech companies to allow party officials access to user data. The harvesting of our data is not only used for Communist China's manipulative gain but with the intent of being sold to other countries who wish to do us harm.
TikTok's current relationship with Communist China is an unacceptable threat to our national security that cannot be ignored.
Last week, the House stood unified against Communist China and passed H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act.
This bill does not ban TikTok. H.R. 7521 requires the Chinese company that owns TikTok, ByteDance, to sell the app to a company not owned by our adversaries.
Unfortunately, if ByteDance refuses, TikTok will be banned in the United States; however, this has never been our goal. H.R. 7521 also allows us to curb the destructive influence of other adversaries like Russia, North Korea, and Iran.
I voted in favor of this legislation to combat the corrosive influence that the CCP is attempting to hold over our country.

Reacting to President Biden's Budget Proposal
Last week, President Biden released his budget proposal for FY2025.
This proposed budget includes disastrous policies that will broadly affect Americans' financial security for the worse, ranging from higher taxes on small businesses to a bloated IRS with sweeping authority to impose penalties. The President's proposal reveals a $7 trillion increase in taxes on American families and small business owners, which will detrimentally affect our economy and our competitive advantage globally.
Not only this, but the President's proposal is full of far-left progressive policies, including a total of $11 billion for progressive climate programs in developing countries and an additional $1.8 billion for programs aimed at bolstering misguided diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
Additionally, the Biden Administration's insistence on increasing the corporate tax rate to one of the highest in the world puts us at a significant disadvantage in being competitive with foreign nations and the international market, as companies will choose not to invest in the U.S. The proposal also includes $120 billion worth of higher taxes on American energy producers, forcing us to rely more on other countries for our energy needs.
American families are facing crushing inflation and rising prices for household goods thanks to Biden's mismanagement of our economy. His latest budget proposal demonstrates just how out of touch both he and his administration are with the vast majority of American families and small businesses. That is why my Republican colleagues and I will continue to fight for your financial security and economic prosperity and ensure the Biden Administration cannot enforce backbreaking taxes and regulations on everyday hardworking Americans.
