Trump warns of "bloodbath" if he loses in November
No big deal. Just the serially indicted cult leader and head of the Republican Party delivering a profanity-laden version of his strong-man rally speech, full of apocalyptic warnings and racist dog whistles to whip up an already agitated MAGA base: "If I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country." The disgraced ex-president was campaigning near Dayton with Senate hopeful Bernie Moreno — a one-time Trump critic who once called the con man a "lunatic" and a "maniac" — ahead of Tuesday's primary. But wait, there's (always) more! During the 90-minute pep rally diatribe, Trump eventually turned his attention to the nation's immigration challenges and casually told the assembled MAGA mob that migrants trying to cross our southern border were "animals" and "not people, in my opinion." There is no bottom with this man.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Rudy Giuliani gets legal news he’s been dreading
The disgraced ex-mayor of New York and one-time Trump hatchet man is on an epic, self-destructive tear entirely of his own making, as creditors are seeking to force Giuliani to sell his $3.5 million Florida condo to pay off some of his many, many debts. Rudy, for his part, is of course crying poor, and his attorneys have warned there's "no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow" in reference to his supposed lack of funds. Despite the sob story, Giuliani is still racking up impressive monthly credit card charges to keep up his cushy lifestyle. But then, who among us isn't spending $26,000 a month on Amazon, Uber, and more?

State Medicaid offices target dead people’s homes to recoup their healthcare costs
Straight from the files of This Can't Be Real, the federal government requires every state to recover money from the assets of dead people who, in their final years, relied on Medicaid to pay for long-term care such as nursing home stays or in-home healthcare. Critics say many states fail to warn people who sign up for Medicaid that big bills and claims to their property might await their families once they die. Earlier this month, Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky proposed scuttling the "cruel" program altogether, calling it "a well-kept secret with devastating and shocking consequences." The mandate, which is decades old, stands little chance of being overturned in Congress, where Republicans are champing at the bit to strip away Medicaid coverage and threaten the social safety net tens of millions of Americans rely on.

Trump says Jan. 6 House committee should be jailed
The MAGA cult leader and insurrectionist tapped to lead the Republican Party for the foreseeable future lumbered onto his silly social network platform and thumb-smashed a doozy, calling for the JAILING of EVERY member of the House Select Committee that investigated the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. "[Liz Cheney] should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!" Trump wrote. The disgraced ex-president said earlier this month that he would free convicted Jan. 6 rioters in one of his first acts as president if reelected this fall, and he has repeatedly talked of issuing blanket pardons for the more than 1,200 people charge with federal crimes for participating in his violent insurrection. Incredible stuff.

Climate change is fueling huge US insurance problem
Major US insurers like AllState, State Farm, and Farmers Insurance have significantly jacked up their rates in large swaths of the country or simply ceased writing new policies altogether in a deeply troubling sign of what's to come for tens of millions of vulnerable American homeowners. The abandonment is part of a wider story — thanks to climate change, the US is becoming a more volatile place to live. Hurricanes, floods, storms, and fires have caused widespread mass destruction over recent years. It's also becoming more expensive, due to the costs associated with extreme weather events. A report released in 2022 analyzed 120 million homes and found one in 10 properties were impacted by natural disasters. Winter storms impacted 12.7 million homes, causing $15 billion in property damage in 2021 alone, while hurricanes caused $33 billion in damage across 1.2 million homes. "If you're not worried, you're not paying attention," California Senator Bill Dodd said. But, please, let's continue to do nearly nothing about the climate-change-induced catastrophe unfolding before everyone's eyes and focus solely on things like quarterly earnings reports and short-term gains. Surely this will all work itself out if we just pretend it isn't a problem.

Trump suffers another teleprompter malfunction at wind-swept rally, claims Biden beat Obama in head-scratching ad lib
Speaking at one of his signature, grievance-filled pep rallies, the Republican gaffe machine was forced to wing significant chunks of his canned speech after wind gusts made his teleprompters, which he famously once derided as crutches for political hacks, difficult to read. The 77-year-old serial fraudster rambled before a somewhat puzzled crowd: "Joe Biden beat Barack Hussein Obama, anybody ever heard of him? Every swing state, Biden beat Obama but in every other state, he got killed." Okay, Donnie, whatever you say!

Don Lemon says Elon Musk doesn't answer to people who "look different"
Don Lemon's ill-fated show on X lasted exactly one episode before Elon Musk pulled the plug, evidently because he didn't care for Lemon's line of questioning while sitting in the interviewee's chair. In an interview with People, Lemon ripped into Musk’s IDGAF persona, saying the far-right, billionaire tech bozo couldn’t handle the heat when he was asked to own up to past mistakes. "For someone who doesn't care about what people write or say about him, he sure does care about what people write or say about him," Lemon said. "He’s not used to being held to account. He’s not used to having to answer to anyone, especially someone like me who doesn't share his worldview, who doesn't look like him."
From anxiety to cancer, the evidence against ultra-processed food piles up
At a time when Americans consume more than half of their daily calories from ultra-processed foods, there is increasing evidence that eating too many of these foods can make us sick. A study published in the British Medical Journal finds people who consume high amounts of these foods have an increased risk of anxiety, depression, obesity, metabolic syndrome, certain cancers, and premature death. Yikes. The data come from more than 9 million people who participated in dozens of studies, which researchers analyzed as part of umbrella review.
