Evelyne Juliet Blaikie (nee Weisz), a Holocaust survivor, educator, and author, passed away on March 11, 2024. Born in Paris in 1939 to Magda Pollak and Hermann Weisz, Evi spent her early life hidden on a remote farm in Hungary, where she survived the Holocaust under an assumed identity. After liberation, Evi and her mother moved throughout Europe-from Hungary to England to Austria to France-before eventually being placed at the Norwood Jewish Orphanage in England. She matriculated in England, earned a Translator's degree at the University of Vienna, and found her way to New York City in 1960, where she met and married Donald Blaikie, had three children, several careers, became a grandmother and a great-grandmother, and remained until her death.

Evi dedicated much of her life to educating others about the Holocaust, specifically about young children who survived in hiding. She authored two books on the subject: a memoir titled "Magda's Daughter: A Hidden Child's Journey Home" and "Remember Us: The Hungarian Hidden Children," highlighting the stories of Jewish children hidden in Hungary during World War II. She was also featured in a documentary also titled "Remember Us" that followed her return to the home where she was hidden as a child.

Throughout her life, Evi imparted the unique lessons of her story to many school-aged children in New York and New Jersey. She was a proud member of the Hungarian Hidden Children group and served as a Trustee of the Anne Frank Center.

Evi is survived by her three children, Jennifer, Nick, and Peter; her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Emily; her grandchildren, Magda, Sophie, Henry, Joe, and Bailey; and her great-grandchildren, Ruth and Willow.

She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, education, and love that will be remembered by all who knew her.

A Memorial service will be held on March 29, 2024, from 3:00 to 6:00 at the JCC 334 Amsterdam Ave at W 76th St, New York, NY 10023
