Hey John --

First of all, I hope you and your family are safe and well. If you have a moment, I hope you'll give me a chance to explain what I'm thinking about right now.

I know what it's like to lean on my community in uncertain times. When my first husband, a union electrical worker, died in a workplace accident, I had one young child and another on the way. His Social Security survivor benefits kept my young family out of poverty, but that's not all that helped. My community stepped up to get me through -- from his union brothers and sisters to my own family and friends. Without their support, I would never have gotten to where I am. Difficult moments show us how critical that hand up from folks can be.

That's why I'm frustrated with Washington. While our neighbors were pitching in at food banks and checking in on one another to lend a hand when they could, Washington was stalled. And the bill they finally passed doesn't do enough to protect and support workers.

We deserve better than that. America deserves better than that.

And we can make that happen. We need to flip four seats to take back the Senate, and our race here in Iowa is the best opportunity we've got to make that a reality. I know what it means to get that helping hand when you need it most, and I'll always try to give it to those who need it -- just like I did.

Right now, I'm emailing you from my home because we pulled down all of our in-person campaign events and continue to follow guidance from our local, state, and federal public health officials. It's the right thing to do, but it also makes our budget tighter. Tomorrow night is our first FEC reporting deadline of the election year, and it ramps up the pressure on a challenger like me. Donating through emails like this is more important than ever to make sure we stay on track to win this race and get Washington working for YOU.
