John, it is time to #CancelRent.
Petition for Pittsburgh to #CancelRent.
Both federal and local officials have failed to offer any real solutions to renters during this crisis. Evictions cannot happen in Allegheny County until April 14th, but with so many of us now out of work or facing unemployment, we need to tell our local officials: “If we cannot work, we cannot pay.”
Fill out this form to let the Pittsburgh Union of Regional Renters (PURR) know if you support cancelling rent throughout the coronavirus crisis. Please note on the petition if you are willing to organize — in general, with your neighbors, or folks who share a landlord.
There are already efforts to suspend loan payments for homeowners and apartment-building owners. We support canceling mortgage payments, but relief MUST then be given to renters as well.
Together we can all keep Pittsburgh as housed and as safe as possible during this crisis. Please share #CancelRent out widely and consider posting at the social media accounts of your city council members, the mayor, and your state representatives to push them to act.
In solidarity,
PGH DSA Housing Committee
