Recent events have starkly illustrated the severity of the challenges facing women's rights, compelling an urgent call to action to defend and advance our rights in the face of escalating attacks from right-wing extremists.
Just 10 days ago, I sent you a letter via postal mail. Now, I'm rushing this email summary of that letter to ensure you're fully informed because, quite frankly, your immediate support is essential [[link removed]] as we ramp up efforts for the critical 2024 election year.
You Can Count On Me in 2024! [[link removed]]
It's abundantly clear that extremists are hell-bent in relegating women to second-class status. Nothing makes this clearer than their unrelenting assaults on reproductive healthcare including abortion, IVF, contraception, and their even more extensive agenda of eliminating marriage equality, holding down women’s pay, and stifling whatever opportunities for women they can crush.
The evidence is horrific . In a mere 19-day span in late January, we bore witness to a series of deeply troubling developments:
* The Supreme Court's decision to entertain a case challenging emergency medical care for women, coinciding with the allowance of a near-total abortion ban in Idaho.
* Jarring research findings by the AMA shedding light on the harrowing prevalence of pregnancies resulting from rape in states
with total abortion bans, with Texas alone reporting a staggering 26,313 cases.
* The Alabama Supreme Court's ruling outlawing IVF, serving as a chilling indication of a broader agenda aimed at criminalizing
reproductive procedures nationwide.
These assaults on women’s health and freedom are not isolated incidents. Rather, they’re part of a meticulously orchestrated campaign by right-wing extremists aimed at dismantling women's rights, extending even to the criminalization of healthcare professionals.
As a key member of our Feminist Majority community we know you understand why sounding the alarm and taking decisive action to halt this assault through the upcoming 2024 elections protects both our lives and our freedoms.
Our 2024 mobilization strategy centers on three pivotal objectives:
* Mobilizing young voters in key swing states to decisively defeat extremists at the ballot box.
* Advocating for the elimination of state laws banning abortion through strategic state constitutional
ballot measures.
* Spearheading efforts to enshrine the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the U.S. Constitution, thereby
securing permanent protection against sex discrimination including protection for abortion, reproductive
healthcare, and financial equality to name a few.
The Feminist Majority’s track record of successful mobilization underscores the formidable power of our proven skill and the power of our collective action. Election after election we have demonstrated unequivocally that together, we can achieve the seemingly impossible.
The next six months are critical and deserve the unwavering attention of each of us. And we must begin right now to organize and mobilize on campuses and in communities in key battleground states.
