John, I meant what I told Hagerstown Magazine: I’m doing this for all of us.

I was raised in redlined neighborhoods and brought up in foster care. I was let down by every system that was supposed to lift me up. But I stayed in town and turned it around.

When I became the first Black mayor of Hagerstown, I began the hard work of healing community wounds, from broken sidewalks to neighborly disputes. We needed a leader who knew our stories and represented our values – so I became that leader.

Because when you support people, they support each other, and the community grows.

I’ve proven that I can foster that growth within my community as Mayor Martinez, and I’m ready to do it again as Congresswoman Martinez.

But this fight is bigger than me, and it’s bigger than Hagerstown. It’s about all of us. So when I tell you that my movement for MD-06 is for people – not political gain – I mean it. I also mean it when I say I need the people in my corner, especially now.
