The Food and Drug Administration has given emergency approval to distributing millions of doses of anti-malarial drugs to U.S. hospitals, saying unproven treatments are a worthwhile risk in trying to help seriously ill coronavirus patients. With Maryland and Virginia joining the list Monday, more than half of all states have enacted “stay-at-home” orders for non-essential trips. The rules apply to roughly three out of four Americans. New York and neighboring New Jersey lead the nation in coronavirus cases, with about 66,500 confirmed cases in New York and about 16,600 in New Jersey as of late Monday. The World Health Organization says people who are not sick with COVID-19 (the disease caused by the coronavirus) should not wear face masks. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says congressional Democrats are working on a new coronavirus-related spending bill that will focus on infrastructure and safety for front-line health workers, among other things. | |
