Last month, AFSC’s team in Gaza distributed water and vegetables to kidney and cancer patients in a shelter in Rafah. The only hospital in the region is overwhelmed beyond capacity and cannot accommodate any more patients. Many are now living in shelters, tents, or on the streets. Join us for Kites for Gaza on March 30: [link removed] Every year, a kite festival in Washington D.C. takes place as part of the annual cherry blossom festival. We hope you will join us in making, displaying, and flying kites to help amplify the call for a cease-fire in Gaza that day. If you're in the D.C. area, come to the festival and fly a kite with us! Or join us wherever you are by making a kite and posting a photo on social media.
Airdrops and sea routes are no alternative to aid delivery by land: [link removed] Organizations on the ground in Gaza, including AFSC, are calling on governments to prioritize a cease-fire and ground-based humanitarian aid. That's the only way to meet the unprecedented need as Gaza faces famine and disease. Airdrops can’t provide the volume of aid that can be transported by land. The U.S. and other governments cannot hide behind these alternatives to create the illusion that they are doing enough to save lives.
Tell Congress: Support the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act!: [link removed] Next week, people from across the U.S. will meet with members of Congress to advocate for legislation supporting peace in Korea. With tensions running high, our action is needed now to call for a peace agreement to formally end the Korean War. That would provide a foundation to better engage on issues such as denuclearization and people-to-people engagement. Join our efforts by contacting Congress today.
New immigrants get legal aid in Denver through free clinic: [link removed] Last week, AFSC and the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition hosted a free event to help immigrants file for Temporary Protected Status and work permits. Both processes can be complicated and costly without legal aid. “This has been an immense help," said Evelin Urdaneta, who recently immigrated from Venezuela. (Axios)
AFSC launches new Reparative Justice & Healing Fund: [link removed] The fund will support Black and First Nations-led social justice organizations and projects in the U.S. Inspired by Quaker beliefs, this initiative is part of AFSC's ongoing support for organizations working with communities that have been systemically marginalized. Interested organizations should complete a brief questionnaire by April 15.

Remembering the Iraq War: [link removed] March 19 marks the 21st anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq. As the number of deaths from the war kept rising, AFSC launched the “Eyes Wide Open” exhibit to illustrate the human cost of war. It featured one pair of boots for every life lost.
