John,
In a few weeks, governments are meeting in Canada to negotiate a global treaty to end plastic pollution! But a tiny group of fossil fuel-loving politicians are trying to wreck the talks.
We have a plan to stop them.
Canada’s environment minister Steven Guilbeault will play a key role in the negotiations — it’s essential that he stands firm against the oil lobbyists. That’s why we’ve got a kick-ass campaign strategy mapped out to put him under maximum pressure. But to make it happen we need your help.
If 5000 of us chip in the cost of a coffee now, we can get to work straight away – taking out billboard ads across Ottawa to show massive public backing for a strong treaty, commissioning polls in key constituencies showing the political risk of failure and showing up with media-grabbing actions right outside the negotiations.
We’ve done this kind of thing before – and won! – like when we pulled out all the stops to win a ban on bee-killing neonicotinoids in the EU. With your help, we can win again. Can you chip in now to end the plastic crisis?

Plastic is truly everywhere – the food we eat, the water we drink, deep ocean gullies, clouds in the sky… researchers have even found microplastics in the heart tissue of patients undergoing surgery. And the terrifying thing is no one knows just how much harm it’s doing.
It’s why 175 countries agreed to develop a legally binding treaty on plastic pollution by the end of 2024. But now a small group of oil-producing governments are trying to undermine progress – pushing for a weak deal that leaves them free to keep spewing out as much plastic as they like.
A handful of countries like Saudi Arabia and Russia are fighting tough rules on plastic because the world is turning away from oil as an energy source – and ramping up oil-based plastic production is their best bet to fill the gap. But here’s the thing: we’re beating them on energy and we can beat them on plastic too.
Citizen pressure is why those same oil nations failed to scupper climate talks in December, despite their best efforts. It’s how we can get the plastic negotiations back on track too. But we need to move fast. Can you chip in now?
