Friends,

This week we had a couple of House Republican wins along with the same craziness from the DFL that we?ve now come to expect. We saw the introduction of a proposal to give illegal immigrants a universal basic income and a proposal to turn Minnesota into a full-time legislature. There is good news though ? I was able to advocate for our community and include two projects into this week?s bonding bill fix and House Republicans were able to FINALLY help law enforcement work effectively and safely in our schools by passing the school resource officer fix off of the House Floor!

?

Full Time Legislature

HF 4598 [ [link removed] ] aims to make Minnesota a full-time legislature, transitioning us from a citizen legislature to one led by career politicians. If HF 4598 passes hold on to your wallets because despite having just six months last year to spend your money the DFL blew through our record surplus, raised taxes by billions of dollars, and left us with a looming deficit. Just imagine what they would do with a year-round session! Needless to say, I?m opposed to changing the Minnesota Constitution to allow us to be in session year-round. Why anybody would want more career politicians in St. Paul, I?ll never know. Remember, as Gideon J. Tucker said: ?No man?s life, liberty, or property are safe while the Legislature is in session.?

?

Universal Basic Income for Illegal Immigrants

Another bill that should be on your radar from this week is HF 2666 [ [link removed] ], a $100 million pilot universal basic income project that passed through the House Children and Families Committee this week on a voice vote. The program would include $500 monthly payments to Minnesotans for up to two years. To be clear, the bill explicitly states that any local governments or non-profits who distribute this money cannot require ?any other income, *proof of residency or citizenship*, or identifying documentation of any recipient,? which means that illegal immigrants would be eligible for the program.

?

Bonding Bill Fix

In another win for our district, I was able to get several projects into the bonding update bill in order to secure funding for needed projects in our community. For example, one of the bills, HF 4751 [ [link removed] ], extends the availability of funds for the Runestone Community Center to 2028 to ensure that the project can be completed without funds expiring. I advocate for my district at the Capitol every day and it?s nice to see it pay off!

School Resource Officers

This week, after seven months of DFL roadblocks and logjams, we were finally able to pass the school resource officer fix off of the House floor! This is a huge win for the House Republican Caucus ? my colleagues and I fought to empower law enforcement to protect kids in our schools and we were finally able to get the bill passed. I will always support our law enforcement and will continue finding ways to keep our communities safe at the Capitol.

Pi Day

Happy belated Pi Day!
