Dear neighbor,

I’m pleased to announce that I secured over $11 million in federal funding for local projects in our community! These funds will support landslide and flood mitigation efforts, reduce homelessness, improve community safety, protect our environment and more. I fought for this money to be included in last week’s government funding bill because I know how important these projects will be for our community. To learn more about the projects receiving funding, read my full statement here.

I'M NOT WITH HUR: Former Special Counsel Robert Hur testified before the House Judiciary Committee about his investigation into President Biden’s handling of classified documents. My Republican colleagues on the Committee tried their best to compare this investigation to the investigation of Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents.

There was just one issue: the two cases aren’t remotely similar. While President Biden fully cooperated with investigators, Trump repeatedly tried to conceal his possession of documents and mislead both investigators and the American public. I laid out the significant differences between these cases during my series of questions for Mr. Hur. Watch our full exchange below.

SUPPORTING DEMOCRACIES ABROAD: It has been over two years since Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian troops have bravely held the line against Russian aggression and so far prevented Putin from expanding his attacks into neighboring countries. But this battle has not been easy for the Ukrainian forces—they are relying on their international allies, including the United States, for support to counter Russia's anti-democratic incursion.

Last month, the Senate passed a national security supplemental funding package that includes much-needed support for Ukraine. Unfortunately, House Speaker Johnson and the extreme MAGA Republican majority have not allowed this bipartisan bill to come before the House for a vote.

Without this critical aid, Ukraine’s democracy is on the line. If Putin is not stopped in Ukraine, he will continue his attacks on sovereign nations. This could potentially endanger U.S. troops stationed in NATO countries and cost our country more in the long run. I joined my House and Senate colleagues at a press conference hosted by VoteVets earlier this week to call on Speaker Johnson to let the House vote. Watch my full remarks here.

FOLLOW THE MONEY: President Biden earlier this week shared his budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2025. Budgets are a statement of values, and President Biden’s budget reflects our shared priorities of lowering costs, creating jobs and protecting Social Security and Medicare. House Democrats and President Biden are united to make life better for American families and defend against MAGA extremism. To read more about President Biden’s budget, click here.

MEANINGFUL MEETING: I was honored to meet Juli Shamash and Perla Mendoza recently. Juli and Perla both tragically lost their sons, Tyler and Elijah, to accidental fentanyl overdoses. Their advocacy inspired Tyler’s Law, a bipartisan bill I introduced to make fentanyl testing a standard practice in emergency rooms, potentially saving lives. I am grateful to Juli and Perla for sharing their stories with me.
