Tell Congress to Pass the People’s Response Act!

Your Action Status: NOT YET SIGNED -> [ [link removed] ]Sign Now

The People’s Response Act emphasizes an inclusive, holistic, and
health-centered approach to public safety by creating a public safety
division within the Department of Human Health and Services — because
communities and experts agree that public safety is a matter of public
health. It adopts a new approach to public safety that will save lives,
and build systems of care that are rooted in improving the well-being of
all communities. This approach must be equitable, health-centered, and
preventative to stop violence and harm before it occurs while ensuring
that every community has what it needs to flourish.

[ [link removed] ]The current approach to public safety is not working for children, for
families, and particularly for Black and brown communities that have been
devastated by mental health crises, substance use health crises, and
criminalization.

The gun industry must be held accountable for gun violence!

Your Action Status: NOT YET SIGNED -> [ [link removed] ]Sign Now

If anyone has created our nation’s gun violence epidemic, it’s the
firearms industry.

There’s currently very little that can be done, however, to hold gun
manufacturers and dealers accountable for their marketing and business
practices that stoke fear and encourage aggression, racism, and violence
in order to sell guns. Why? Because in 2005, Congress outrageously passed
the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which
effectively shields the industry from lawsuits. By blocking legal action
against gun manufacturers and dealers, PLCAA has removed any incentive for
the gun industry to make guns safer and has absolved the industry of any
responsibility for reckless and negligent sales practices, leading to the
flood of guns both legal and illegal into our communities. It has allowed
manufacturers and dealers to sell guns based on an extreme gun culture
rooted in fear and violence, that disdains gun safety and embraces armed
aggression, and puts weapons in the hands of those most susceptible to its
dystopian vision. The American people need every tool possible to fight
our gun violence epidemic, including civil lawsuits to hold gun
manufacturers and dealers accountable for the carnage of gun violence.
Repeal PLCAA now!

Parents are struggling to afford enough diapers to keep their babies clean, dry,
and healthy.

Right now in our country, nearly half of all families are struggling with
"Diaper Need" – meaning a lack of access to affordable diapers. And
one-in-four working parents and caregivers, as a result of diaper need,
have missed work or school because they did not have money to buy enough
diapers to keep their babies clean, dry, and healthy at childcare. Missing
work and losing money means parents have even less money to buy diapers.
THAT IS ONE VICIOUS CYCLE AND WE NEED TO BREAK IT.

[ [link removed] ]To build momentum for ending diaper need, we need families (like
yours!) to share their experiences in order to show our leaders that this
issue is critical to parents across the country.

Tell your neighbors the truth about immigration!

Week after week we’re hearing back-to-back attacks from politicians on
immigrants in our communities. That hate drowns the huge contributions of
immigrants to our workforce, economy, and communities. We have to spread
the word and remind our friends, families, neighbors, and members of
Congress that immigrants make our country and economy stronger!

A new report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO)
estimates that thanks to the uptick in immigration, following the
pandemic, the U.S. economy will grow an additional $7 trillion!!! U.S.
revenue is also estimated to be greater by $1 trillion than it would have
been without immigrants coming to this country.

Even Trump-appointed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome H. Powell recognizes the
massive contributions immigrants make in keeping our economy growing. In a
CBS 60 Minutes interview Powell said, “I will say, over time, though, the
U.S. economy has benefited from immigration. And, frankly, just in the
last year a big part of the story of the labor market coming back into
better balance is immigration returning to levels that were more typical
of the pre-pandemic era.”

anti-immigrant rhetoric across the country? Help out and write a Letter to
the Editor!
