Dear John,
The Democratic primary season has landed in exactly the way it was designed to: Joe Biden has won the number of delegates needed for nomination. And now, with both Trump and Biden the presumed nominees of the two major parties, the reaction of people through the United States could best be described as a collective “Ugh.” The majority of people have said for a long time that this is not what they wanted. Yet this is what we have.
Both political parties will be spending hundreds of millions of dollars this year attacking their opponents. But such money would be far better spent by the Democrats on ways to design, promise, and promote an agenda through which voters are offered so much more — Medicare for All, subsidized child care, tuition free college, guaranteed living wage and all the other things our campaign has stood for. THAT is the way to win in 2024.
From Michigan to Washington to Georgia to Illinois, wherever I go people respond with standing ovations to our message. When people have asked “Who are your supporters?” my answer has been, “The people who hear me.” Our problem has never been our agenda, but rather our inability — for a lot of reasons — to reach people with it. This is not the time to complain, however. It’s time to keep going. I believe with all my heart that only an agenda of fundamental economic reform will defeat Trumpism in 2024, and I will keep saying it for as long as I can.
Your willingness to support this campaign, to keep donating so I can travel for the remainder of the primaries, building on this message, is very deeply appreciated. I can tell you that everywhere I go people are so grateful we're still on the trail.
I am committed to keeping these conversations going. With your help, we will keep the pressure on until these agendas become national policies.
