It is hard to overstate how complicit the U.S. and Canada were in underwriting and ‘legitimizing’ 12 years and 7 months of the brutal, “open for global business”, drug-trafficking regime headed by former President Juan Orlando Hernandez, found guilty in a New York court, on March 8^th, of drug-trafficking.

The entire trial process exposes the hypocrisy and complicity of the “foreign policy” of the U.S. and Canada, that effectively enabled the June 27, 2009 military coup that brought this regime to power, and then fully supported it for close to 13 years, calling it a “democratic allie” the entire time.

The trial exposes the fraud that is the U.S.-led “war on drugs” in the Americas, such that the U.S. and Canada could fully support and ‘legitimize’ a regime that was actively shipping massive amounts of illegal drugs north towards the U.S. and Canadian markets. This information was widely known going back many years.

The trial exposes again the fact that mainstream media in the U.S. and Canada operate, more often than not, as information outlets for the foreign policy establishments of the U.S. and Canada. With some exceptions, the mainstream media either ignored the “Honduras story” altogether, or parroted whatever analysis emanating from Washington and Ottawa, from the day of the 2009 military coup, through to when the Narco President was finally forced from office on January 27, 2022.

The trial exposes again the fundamental lack of political oversight and legal accountability in the U.S. and Canada for the policies and actions of our governments internationally. There are simply no consequences whatsoever when our governments support and enable repressive, corrupt regimes, such as the one headed by the Narco President in Honduras from 2009 to 2022.

But there are consequences.

It is the majority Honduran population that suffered the consequences of this U.S. and Canadian-backed nightmare, as all aspects of their quality of life were flushed down the toilet.

All respect to the Honduran people who kept on resisting and working to end this nightmare regime “made in the U.S. and Canada”. All respect to activist groups in the U.S. and Canada, and alternative media outlets, that worked closely with the Honduran people and reported honestly about the regime the entire time.
