Named in honor of the dedicated and courageous Gabrielle Giffords, the Rising Star Award celebrates an extraordinary woman serving in state or local office. The award honors a woman who demonstrates the sort of commitment to community, dedication to women and families, and determination and civility that have been the highlights of former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ career, in and out of office.



La'Tasha is a rising star in Pennsylvania and national politics as the first woman to ever represent her district and the first openly lesbian woman to ever serve in the Pennsylvania General Assembly. With nearly 25 years as a leader in the Reproductive Justice movement and 18 years as Founder and former President & CEO of New Voices for Reproductive Justice, La'Tasha has taken Harrisburg by storm in her first year being an outspoken voice and leader for Reproductive Justice and abortion rights in our Commonwealth, advancing Black maternal health as Co-Chair of the newly formed PA Black Maternal Health Caucus and leading with me on passing the CROWN Act and the launch of the PA CROWN Act Coalition just last Friday.
