You might be wondering about an unexpected image from the State of the Union - why I, Gwen Moore, found myself seated beside Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. |
Truth be told, it was a serendipitous blend of several factors. Yes, I admit, the clock wasn't my ally that evening, and time's fleeting nature placed me beside MTG. The chance for an aisle seat offered by a colleague (clearly with a sense of humor) was tempting, though I didn't expect the MAGA surprise waiting there. The options were clear: stand tucked away behind the crowd for two hours or take the olive branch seat to demonstrate unity in our divided halls.
With the lessons of civility instilled by my parents echoing strongly, I chose to sit, honoring their wisdom to respect others. My initial intent was to graciously ignore our differences for the evening, but the universe had other plans. I tried my very best just to ignore her, BUT I COULDN'T.
Do we wish for MTG, Lauren Boebert, Josh Hawley, and Tommy Tuberville to hold the reins of Congress? Or do we rally together for the soul and future of our democracy? If your vision of the future diverges from theirs as resolutely as mine, I urge you to act!

P.S. And yes, I thought it was cool that I made it into SNL’s cold open, but the future of our country is no laughing matter. |
