Before running for Congress, I remember my inbox getting flooded with desperate, hair-on-fire emails from other Democratic campaigns.
To be honest, I hated them. The deadlines always seemed arbitrary, and they were often full of obnoxious scare tactics. In my opinion, Democratic donors have plenty of real reasons why they should support the cause. It’s our job to provide those messages to our voters.
That's why I told my team from the start that we would do things differently. Yes, the stakes are high, but we won't feed into the panic you might see on social media or cable news that's caused so much distrust and dysfunction over the years.
So today I want to give it to you straight. We have two weeks until the first FEC fundraising deadline in my reelection year, the first one after we have an official opponent. We know that national Republicans have pledged millions to defeat me, so showing strength right now is critical.
I'm not going to scare you into supporting us, but I do hope you'll send in a donation of $7 or more to help us meet our goal.
President Biden was right when he said earlier, "This is no longer your father's Republican Party." Unfortunately, it's the most extreme voices front and center running the show. And my likely opponent has made it clear he’s running for their approval, not our community.
While our opponents rely on outside dollars from mega donors, the *vast majority* of our contributions come in online and on emails just like this one. We don't have billionaires and big special interests backing, so when I say we're counting on your support, I truly mean it!
So please, make a contribution before our FEC deadline. If we keep IL-17, credit will be due to this grassroots team for making it possible.
