Council supporting Oldham Coliseum Theatre's spring and summer programme

Oldham Council is pleased to support Oldham Coliseum Theatre's newly-announced spring and summer programme of theatre, live performance, and creative activities.

Aimed at people of all ages and backgrounds, plans include the Coliseum at the Roundabout, a 167-seater pop-up theatre that will host a variety of live events, and an artistic programme focusing on work made in Oldham.

The theatre will open next month and run until July, with many events free to attend.

Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: “I’m delighted that we as a council are working hand in hand with Oldham Coliseum on their spring and summer programme.

“The plans, including the pop-up theatre, will give local people and community groups the chance to take part in new and exciting activities, as well as giving us all the opportunity to go and enjoy some brilliant performances.

“As we move forward with the Coliseum on our joint plans for their future home, it’s so important that we keep working together to provide cultural, artistic, and educational opportunities in the meantime – keeping the Coliseum’s proud legacy of producing theatre beating in the heart of our town.”

Councillor Shaid Mushtaq, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "I'm thrilled that we've been successful in getting this funding for improvements to the roof at Castleshaw.

"The centre provides opportunities for people to enjoy activities they may otherwise have never had the chance to experience, so it's important we do all we can to ensure these opportunities continue for generations of Oldhamers to come."

Oldham Way: all lanes open

All lanes on Oldham Way (A62) are now open to traffic.

More repairs were required than initially anticipated.

Now this work is complete the contractors will prioritise repairing the underside of Oldham Way – the bridges at Waterloo Street and Wellington Street.

Looking for something Egg-Cellent to do this Easter? Help us find the Oldham bunnies on our Egg-Citing hunt

The Oldham bunnies are on the loose over the Easter Holidays and we need your help to find them.

To celebrate Easter, we have created a bunny hunt around Oldham town centre to encourage visitors to shop locally and give the kids something egg-citing to do over the holidays. Many local businesses are participating in the hunt, each hiding their own special named Bunny within their premises for visitors to find.

Just match 12 bunny names to their allocated shop and then complete a simple form for the chance to win lots of prizes including shopping vouchers and much more.

The actual Easter bunny will also be making a special appearance in Spindles on Good Friday, 29 March to launch the Easter bunny hunt! Catch him at intervals from 12 to 4pm - there will be face painting, Easter crafts, and chocolate treats too.

The Easter bunny hunt will run over the Easter holidays from Friday 29 March to Sunday 14 April.

All completed forms will need to be posted in one of the special post boxes that will be situated in Spindles (outside Next) and Tommyfield Market, to be entered into the prize draw.
