Tell the Biden Administration to defend offshore wind power as an important clean energy resource!

Clean energy is on the rise – reducing air pollution, lowering our electricity costs, fighting climate change, and creating new jobs as it grows. In 2021, wind energy alone added $20 billion to the United States economy. Many more offshore wind projects have been proposed up and down the east coast.

Sounds great, right? Now comes the bad news.

The oil and gas industry sees wind energy as a threat to their profits, and they're spending BIG to try to ruin these projects and block our progress towards a clean energy economy. Many of these proposed offshore wind sites are in danger because of large scale disinformation campaigns and interference from dark money, including Koch family-funded groups.

Tell the Biden Administration and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management that you support their work to advance responsibly-sited offshore wind energy!

The current issue of Sierra magazine reveals just how big of an impact the oil and gas disinformation campaigns have had in stalling clean energy projects that are essential to a clean energy future. Many of these efforts can be traced back to a 2012 meeting when Koch family-funded groups like the American Legislative Exchange Council and the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow laid plans "to create so much confusion" and mislead the public in order to generate opposition to renewable energy development.

Much of the disinformation produced by these anti-renewable groups persists today. Even though marine scientists have repeatedly debunked the argument that offshore wind construction is a major factor in whale deaths, offshore wind opponents continue to recycle that claim. Among other threats, rising ocean temperatures as a result of climate change greatly disrupt whales' feeding and migration patterns, causing them to come closer to shore where they are hit by cargo ships. Speeding up the transition to clean energy is actually one of the most important things we can do to protect these majestic creatures and safeguard our future.

The Biden Administration has the chance to play a critical role in a clean energy future by approving more offshore wind projects, which will in turn create good jobs and fight climate change. But dark money lobbyists are pulling out all the stops to block clean energy, and we need to fight back.
