John, in my last email to you, I mentioned my friend Lindsey Prather, whose election was one of the few bright spots in our 2022 legislative races. On a night when Democrats fell apart all over North Carolina, she held strong as a first-time candidate because she worked hard, she showed up, and she showed her neighbors how Democrats will fight for them.
Well, this year, Rep. Prather is up for reelection, and she could really use your support.
See, Lindsey isn’t just a great candidate—she’s an excellent representative, too. She’s been one of the most vocal members of our caucus in the House, standing up to the Republican Party on teacher pay, abortion rights, and economic opportunity. She’s a loud and proud voice for her constituents, and the GOP leadership absolutely cannot stand her because of that.
Our legislature would be a much worse place without Lindsey, and that’s exactly why the Republicans redrew her seat last year in order to try and gerrymander her out of it. She’s no stranger to fighting for the votes of her rural neighbors—and that’s one of the reasons I admire her so much—but they pulled out all the stops to give her the most Republican-leaning seat they possibly could because they would love nothing more than to be rid of her.
It’s not an understatement to say that Lindsey’s race will be one of the most competitive in the state this year, and it’s impossible for Democrats to break the GOP’s legislative supermajority without winning it.
I know Lindsey is going to work hard and show the GOP that they can’t get rid of her this easily—but I also know that running a race as competitive as hers is going to require a lot of resources, and just like me, Lindsey comes from a working class background and is relying entirely on grassroots support. That’s why I’m chipping in what I can to help support Lindsey Prather’s reelection—so can I count on you to join me by splitting a contribution of whatever you can afford between her campaign and mine today?
