Dear John,
This year is about fighting for our families and communities to have a path to a better life and pressing for the real solutions to get us there. We must ensure that our communities are working together—not being divided—in pursuit of these goals.
Next week, the AFT is hosting two events in Washington, D.C., that advance this work. I invite you to join us, in person or online.
On March 20, we’ll be hosting a conversation about the situation in the Middle East with leaders of Standing Together, a grass-roots group of Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel who are fighting for peace, security, justice and self-determination for Jews and Palestinians. The program will be moderated by civil rights leader Eric Ward of the organization Race Forward, and it will include Sally Abed and Alon-Lee Green from Standing Together, Amy Spitalnick from the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, and Daily Beast columnist Wajahat Ali.

On March 21, we’re co-hosting a pioneering conference on experiential learning in Washington, D.C.: “Passion Meets Purpose: Promising Pathways Through Experiential Learning.” This event, co-hosted with the Center for American Progress and the Albert Shanker Institute, will feature leaders including Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, Center for American Progress President Patrick Gaspard, AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, U.S. Rep. Ro Khanna of California, IBM Foundation President Emeritus Stanley Litow and more.

These two very different events highlight the breadth of work that we undertake. The AFT is committed to advancing democracy and fostering conversations with civil society, and these two events will do just that. I’m proud to be hosting them, and I hope you will join us.
