Dear Constituent,

This week, I was proud to announce $30 million in American Rescue Plan funds were awarded to support permanent supportive housing and traditional affordable housing developments in Baltimore. Applicants won grant awards ranging from $419,000 to $7 million, coinciding with the number of units being created at the project. The full list of award recipients can be found here (CLICK).

In September 2023, the Baltimore City Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD), Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services (MOHS), and Mayor’s Office of Recovery Programs (MORP) launched the Housing Accelerator Fund with a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) to make awards for the construction of permanent supportive housing. Permanent supportive housing combines affordable housing, health care, and supportive services to help individuals and families who are homeless, formerly homeless, or otherwise unable to maintain housing stability.

I made this announcement alongside Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott, Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development Commissioner Alice Kennedy, Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services Director Ernestina Simmons, and Chief Recovery Officer Shamiah Kerney on the third anniversary of the American Rescue Plan being signed into law.

This legislation steered our nation out of an unprecedented, global pandemic and paved the way for the strongest jobs recovery on American record. My Democratic congressional colleagues, President Joe Biden, and I fought hard to get the American Rescue Plan done. Three years later, we are still seeing its favorable impact right here in Baltimore.

This $30 million investment from the American Rescue Plan will create and renovate more than 450 housing units in Baltimore City for people to live in, to grow in, and to survive in

Congratulations to the community award recipients we celebrated whose mission is to assist those who are without dependable shelter. I look forward to continuing to find innovative ways to make sure housing in our City is accessible to all.

Sincerely,
