WRITE TO CONGRESS: "PIPES ACT" MUST Make CO2 Pipeline Dangers Public
John --
Congress is holding hearings on the "PIPES Act," which fails to include enhanced safety standards needed to protect Americans from the dangers of the proposed massive buildout of CO2 pipelines -- and worse, threatens to hide the risks of these dangerous pipelines from the public. [1]
The good news is this proposed law would require pipeline companies to conduct higher quality computer modeling to predict the danger zone where a pipeline rupture might kill or injure you, your family, or your animals.
The bad news is Congress wants to keep this modeling secret.
If you’re too near a pipeline rupture, high concentrations of carbon dioxide can kill you. Even further away, lower levels can make you pass out or intoxicate you and stall your vehicle.
When a carbon pipeline ruptured in Mississippi in 2020, people up to a mile away passed out, cars stalled, and rescuers described conscious victims as "zombies." [2] Nobody died at Satartia -- but only because the rupture wasn’t near any homes, neighborhoods, or businesses.
Americans want to know the risks they face. They don’t want to be designated victims. They don’t want to be lab rats. They want to protect themselves.
ACTION => WRITE TO CONGRESS: "PIPES ACT" MUST Make CO2 Pipeline Dangers Public
The carbon pipeline industry wants to keep you ignorant so you don’t push for safer routing, rupture alert systems, evacuation planning, and fully funded and trained local emergency responders.
This gag order would not protect anyone -- but it would save pipeline companies money and make it easier to route carbon pipelines closer to your home.
Congress should protect communities by providing critical information to them, not keep them in the dark.
If you think communities deserve to know carbon pipeline risks, write to your Representatives and Senators and demand that the PIPES Act make CO2 pipeline spill plume dispersion modeling free and public information.
