350,000 BAGS PLEDGED... SO FAR!

The Great British Spring Clean officially launches today, and we wanted to get in touch to remind you it isn't too late to join us in our special 70th year.

On day one of the campaign, we are delighted that 350,000 bags have already been pledged, and hundreds of people have already made a #PlatinumPledge. Last year, just over 400,000 bags were picked up. Can we beat our record and do even more for the environment as we celebrate Keep Britain Tidy's platinum anniversary?

We're always delighted to see our #LitterHeroes going above and beyond with their plans for the Great British Spring Clean.

Martin Shaw from Angus was announced as the winner of the Leading #LitterHero Award following the official launch of the campaign in the House of Commons a fortnight ago.

Martin says had never really noticed litter until he stumbled across David Attenborough’s Blue Planet II documentary which was “heart-breaking” for Martin to watch as an albatross fed her chicks plastic. Like many, Martin lives with anxiety and littering makes it worse.

The documentary changed his outlook and he began to take steps to tackle the problem in his own community and has collected over 100 bags on his own.

Nominations are now open for our next Great British Spring Clean awards, announced in 2025.

If you know someone that has gone above and beyond to protect the environment from litter, why not nominate them for next year's new Litter Legend award below?

And don't forget - please share your pictures and videos on social media using the hashtag #GBSpringClean or e-mail us at: [email protected].

This year’s campaign is made possible thanks to media partner Clear Channel, as well as headline partner Calisen and supporting partners Coca-Cola, KFC, Mars Wrigley, McDonald’s, Nestlé, Pepsi MAX and Walkers. We also thank players of People’s Postcode Lottery for raising funds to support this campaign.

Calisen Group owns, installs and manages essential energy infrastructure, driven by its vision of smarter energy for all, and is on a mission to support communities and improve people’s quality of life and wellbeing.

Calisen's Risk and Sustainability Director, Helen Woodcock, said: "Our engineers are in a UK home every three minutes, meaning we're part of the fabric of local neighbourhoods.

"What better way to breathe life in our goal for a cleaner and greener Britain than to pair #SmarterEnergyForAll with cleaner and tidier communities?”
