John,

You'll hear a lot from my team that we have an end-of-month deadline tomorrow (just $610 to go!), but we wanted to take a minute to explain why reaching this goal matters so much right now.

Some elected officials are using this pandemic to advance ideology that has nothing to do with COVID-19. Just last week, both Ohio and Texas Attorneys General issued an order to stop "nonessential" abortions due to this pandemic. It's evident that anti-choice politicians are taking advantage of a highly-vulnerable time for many Americans to restrict reproductive health care access by any means necessary. The decision to have an abortion is never an easy one.

This is outrageous and goes against our Montana values. Public health is critical, but everyone should feel assured that they can receive the care they need. Making the decision to have an abortion is never "nonessential" to any woman, and state Attorneys General have no right to make that determination for her. The government should not be involved in making a woman’s medical decisions for her.

That's why we need to ensure that we have a health care advocate in the Montana Attorney General's office. I'll never back down on defending our rights and upholding our state's constitution as I have my entire career, both as a prosecutor and as a legislator. And I'll continue this fight as your next Attorney General.

This is why this deadline is so important. We need to do everything we can to protect our rights in these uncertain times, and I still need to raise $610 before March 31 to ensure we're ready for the road ahead. Help me ensure that Montana doesn't follow Texas and Ohio's lead and chip in $5 now.

Together, we can do this.
