Muslims around the globe are celebrating the holy month of Ramadan. Even those experiencing humanitarian crisis, natural disaster, or war.
Like in Sudan, where 10 months of conflict have created the world’s largest hunger crisis.
Sudan has the largest number of displaced people in the world, including the world’s biggest child displacement crisis.
In a month when families are accustomed to sitting at the same table to share stories, break bread together, and share in prayers, hundreds of thousands of women are struggling to provide for their families, secure food, and provide care.
As in all wars, crises, and instability, women remain disproportionately affected. They eat last and eat least. Amidst the chaos, violence against women soars and child marriage skyrockets.
There have even been reports of women and girls being abducted, chained, and held in inhuman, degrading slave-like conditions. Survivors, witnesses, and other sources have already reported that over 20 women and girls have been taken, but the number could be higher according to the UN human rights office.
Sexual violence has also been used as a weapon of war in Sudan. More than 50 incidents of sexual violence linked to the hostilities have been reported, impacting at least 105 victims — 86 women, one man, and 18 children.
This Ramadan, millions of women and girls are relying on your ongoing support as they struggle to get the humanitarian aid they so desperately need.
Will you make an emergency gift to deliver lifesaving care to the women and girls in Sudan and beyond who need it most? Your Sadaqah (gift) will make a world of difference to those who need it most this Ramadan season.
Thank you for being there for women and girls.
