According to the DPD city crime dashboard, just 3,102 crimes were reported in Historic Downtown in 2020; compared to 2023, Downtown has 4,312 offenses. Facts matter, and Dallas residents aren't stupid. They know this city is more dangerous than it was four years ago. They know that things will not improve until the City Council finally decides to deal with our understaffed police department.
At present, we are at risk of falling below 3,000 police officers in active force. DPD needs to have around 4,000 officers to address crime in Dallas proactively. Contact your City Council member today and tell them they must do everything possible to hire 1,000 new police officers ASAP.
