When the government shuts down, our nation's security, economy, and public welfare are put in jeopardy. Essential services, like Social Security checks and food assistance, come to a standstill, federal employees work without pay, parks and libraries close and the repercussions are felt nationwide.
It's time for a straightforward solution: automatic continuing resolution, a common-sense policy that would support our economy, protect services like Social Security and Medicare, and ensure our government works for the people, always.
When Congress can't agree on a budget, this mechanism would keep the government funded at existing levels, preventing shutdowns and ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of government services.
