The Trevor Project
Dear Friend,

It is with heavy hearts that we reach out to you today as we come to terms with the most recent developments in the loss of Nex Benedict (he/they), a nonbinary teen whom we recently honored on Zero Discrimination Day. Our thoughts are with Nex's loved ones during this tragic time.

This news serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for our collective efforts in supporting and protecting LGBTQ+ young people. Our research shows that 1 in 3 LGBTQ+ young people reported that their mental health was poor most of the time or always due to anti-LGBTQ+ policies and legislation.

In light of this tragedy, we want to emphasize the importance of open and safe conversations surrounding suicide and mental health, and the role of allyship in fostering supportive environments. To support you, we offer two essential resources:

"How to Talk About Suicide Safely": Gain valuable guidance on navigating discussions with empathy and understanding.

Your dedication to allyship can make a life-saving difference for LGBTQ+ young people struggling with their mental health.

LGBTQ+ young people deserve to exist safely and authentically. As The Trevor Project’s Founder and Interim CEO, Peggy Rajski (she/her) stated, "Nex’s death is a tragic reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing and eventually eradicating LGBTQ+ youth suicide."  Your continued dedication to The Trevor Project's mission and the LGBTQ+ young people we serve is invaluable, and we are profoundly grateful for your unwavering commitment. Your support enables us to provide vital resources and 24/7 crisis services, which can play a crucial role in preventing such tragedies.
