Hey John,

Right now, the D.C. Council is [ [link removed] ]considering a bill that could
effectively write the ballot initiative process out of existence. Let’s be
clear: this effort to eliminate citizens’ power is a direct attack on our
local democracy.

[ [link removed] ]Tell your councilmember to vote NO on the Initiative Amendment Act
(B25-0475)

The citizen-led initiative process is perhaps the most powerful tool in
the pro-democracy toolkit, but the D.C. Council is on the verge of joining
a starkly anti-democratic trend of states seeking to limit citizen
participation.

We can’t let them get away with this. But with your help, we can hold the
D.C. Council accountable.Tomorrow, the Committee on Executive
Administration and Labor is holding a markup session on the Initiative
Amendment Act. Now is our chance to tell the committee to protect the
initiative process and VOTE NO.

To protect the democratic process we must stand up and speak out, and that
means contacting our council members to let them know where we stand. Join
us in demanding they VOTE NO on the Initiative Amendment Act (B25-0475).
