Hi there, friend.
I’m Kate Kahan, the new Executive Vice President of Programs at the National
Immigration Law Center. I’m excited to join this incredible team, and I’m in
your inbox to share a little bit about me and the work that lies ahead of us.
I first got involved in activism as a single mom on welfare, motivated to make a
difference in my community by advancing the fight for economic justice. Over the
past three decades, I've advocated across all levels of government, focusing on
a range of social justice issues including economic justice, health reform,
childcare, racial and gender justice, and immigrant rights — all with a goal of
advancing equality and justice for everyone .
Joining NILC aligns perfectly with that goal. I am truly honored to be in this
struggle alongside you, friend, and the entire team, as
we defend and advance the rights of immigrants in our country.
And I’m ready to get to work because we have a lot of work to do. That's why I'm reaching out to you today —
our team at NILC is currently pressing the Biden administration to finalize its
rule expanding DACA recipients’ access to health insurance programs like the
Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Public health insurance programs are a lifeline to so many people, but DACA
recipients have been unjustly excluded for over a decade. So, please join us in urging the Biden administration to prioritize and
finalize this rule. Your voice matters, and together, we can strengthen our
message that everyone — regardless of their background — should have access to
healthcare.

More soon,
