Dear John,
Our hard work, patient persistence, and consistent trips to Washington, D.C., to meet with Members of Congress and staff of critical Congressional committees, paid off recently. Rep. Stauber forced an amendment, called a “rider” in the U.S. House of Representatives to the annual appropriations bill for the Department of the Interior that would unravel Boundary Waters protections.
But, because of our work in D.C., Congress passed an appropriations bill without a Boundary Waters mining amendment. This was a success for Canoe Country! Read more about our recent work in D.C. here >> [[link removed]]

Nicknamed the "Four Features Bill," this new bill provides an opportunity to strengthen Minnesota's environmental laws to protect the BWCA. The new bill (H.F. 3458 / S.F. 3434) was recently introduced in the MN State Legislature and would protect the Rainy River Watershed from four risky sulfide-ore copper mining practices. This is a chance for youth (under the age of 22) to advocate and meet with elected officials asking for support for two crucial Wilderness protection bills.
