Hi John —

It’s still Black History Month! Want to know why? Because Black history is EVERY month. Today and every day, we want to honor and center the contributions of Black leaders, organizers, advocates, and changemakers.

Too often, politicians overlook the disproportionate impact gun violence has on communities of color. That’s why centering Black voices in the gun violence prevention movement is essential to building a safe, just future for all.

Unfortunately, new data from the Mapping Police Violence shows the problem is getting worse, not better, especially when we look at police violence. In 2023, Black people were 2.6 times more likely to be killed by the police than white people. That’s unacceptable.

It’s up to us to organize and make change.

U.S. Police killed a record number of people in 2023 (a nearly 20% increase over an 11-year span). The numbers don't lie: despite being just 14% of the population. Black lives made up a staggering 26% of the casualties. Police violence is f*cking violence.

We HAVE TO do everything in our power to end the scourge of police violence, John.
