Denouncing Biden's Border Policies
|
President Biden must use his statutory authority to secure our border, just as he used his authority to open it. However, time and time again he has caved to his progressive wing and made it easier for illegal aliens to come into our nation. Since President Biden took office, there have been 1.8 million known gotaways who have evaded U.S. Border Patrol, a clear sign that our borders remain wide open.
This week the House passed H. Res. 1065, to denounce President Biden and his Administration for their harmful policies, or lack thereof, that have caused the worst border security crisis in U.S. history. This resolution also calls on the Biden Administration to end disastrous policies such as catch-and-release, reinstate the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) implemented under the Trump Administration, utilize expedited removal authority, and detain inadmissible aliens.
President Biden's refusal to prioritize the safety of Americans over illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds is alarming, and House Republicans will continue demanding that this administration take action to protect our communities and keep Americans safe.

Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversaries
|
Yesterday the House passed H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, with my support. This bill seeks to protect Americans and prevent foreign adversaries, such as China, from targeting, surveilling, and manipulating the American people, especially our nation’s youth, through online applications.
Contrary to many reports, this legislation is not a ban, it simply requires that companies separate from any entities that are under the control of a foreign adversary to be able to remain available in the U.S. This bill is an important stand against rogue regimes seeking to undermine our national security. TikTok, in particular, has never been transparent with the direction it takes from its parent company, ByteDance, who we know answers to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) according to the laws in China.
ByteDance has used TikTok to spy on American journalists’ physical locations, for which it is currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. With unknown access to the sensitive data of 170 million American users, TikTok in its current makeup is a propaganda tool for the CCP to weaponize against Americans. The choice is up to TikTok: divest from ByteDance and the CCP within 180 days after the bill is signed into law or not be offered in the United States. I was proud to support passage of this bipartisan bill.

Bidenomics = Bidenflation
|
Two weeks after President Biden's State of the Union Address, where he took an unwarranted victory lap on the economy, reports are showing that inflation increased at an annual rate of 3.2% in February.
Since President Biden took office, overall prices have climbed by 18.6%. Bidenflation is a direct consequence of the administration's expansive government spending, and American families are paying the price.

This Week's Committee Activity
|
Energy and Commerce
Communications and Technology Subcommittee Markup
The C&T Subcommittee marked up four bills that are essential to ensure our continued leadership in safeguarding America's communications networks from foreign adversaries to protect our homes, schools, hospitals, economy, and national security. By eliminating reliance on technology from adversaries, we can secure our communications infrastructure and safeguard our nation's interests. During the markup, I offered an amendment to H.R. 820 that would incorporate technical assistance from the Federal Communications Commission and others to ensure this bill can be implemented according to its intent. My amendment was adopted with bipartisan support.
Bills advanced by the subcommittee include: - H.R. 2864, the Countering CCP Drones Act
- H.R. 820, the Foreign Adversary Communications Transparency Act
- H.R. 1513, the Future Uses of Technology Upholding Reliable and Enhancing Networks (FUTURE Networks) Act
- H.R. 7589, the Removing Our Unsecure Technologies to Ensure Reliability and Security (ROUTERS) Act
Education and the Workforce
Joint Subcommittee Hearing: Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions; Higher Education and Workforce Development
"Safeguarding Student-Athletes from NLRB Misclassification"
This hearing addressed the National Labor Relations Board's, or NLRB's, concerning move to label student-athletes as university employees, as seen in the case of Dartmouth College's men's basketball team. Additionally, the NLRB General Counsel is suggesting that the NCAA and Pac-12 Conference are joint employers of student-athletes, which could impose significant liabilities and increased costs on institutions. This approach threatens student-athletes' freedoms and educational standards, and could lead to revoked or taxed scholarships if they are classified as employees.

2024 Congressional Art Competition
|
I recently announced the 2024 Congressional Art Competition is underway! Every year, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nationwide high school arts competition. This contest is open to all high school students (9th – 12th grade) in Georgia’s 12th District. The winning piece will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, and its student artist will receive an invitation to travel to Washington, D.C. to attend the national winners’ reception.
The Congressional Art Competition is a special tradition that provides high school students the opportunity to display their art for the country to see. I look forward to seeing submissions from our young artists in Georgia’s 12th District, and encourage all interested high school students to participate.
