Team,

West Virginia lawmakers just rejected the CROWN Act, a bill to ban race-based hair discrimination.

This was one of the major pieces of legislation our grantee, WV Black Voter Impact Initiative, advocated for at the state Capitol during Black Policy Day last month.

While we didn’t get the outcome we hoped for this time, we’re never going to let a setback stop us from fighting for what’s right.

Groundwork Project and our roster of talented grantees aren’t afraid of the tough fights, folks.

That’s why we invest in places often overlooked or underfunded, and while we don’t always see an immediate impact, we ARE making a difference.

Just look at Mississippi, where our partners on the ground are unraveling decades of Jim Crow-era voting practices and paving the way for monumental victories like this:

Mississippi Today: With bipartisan majority, House passes bill to restore voting rights to people convicted of nonviolent crimes

Your grassroots support toward community-based organizing is the best way to ensure that long-term, progressive change makes its way to every corner of our country.

That’s why I’m asking: Can you chip in $10 today to help us hit our mid-month fundraising goal and continue investing in local activists?
