John — we have good news and bad news to share with you.
Let’s start with the hard truth: Our climate is rapidly changing. February 2024 was the 9th consecutive month to break its own heat record, and March could very well be the 10th. While skyrocketing temperatures alone pose a direct threat to the health and well-being of millions of people worldwide, the consequences go far beyond unseasonably warm months.
Droughts, floods, fires and other severe weather events are wreaking havoc on communities and are accelerating, and outpacing, our ability to adapt. Vital ecosystems are on the brink of collapse across the globe, and historically marginalized communities are disproportionately affected by this crisis.
All the while the main perpetrators of the climate crisis are consistently avoiding accountability because of their outsized influence on our political system.
Now, for the encouraging part: We still have time to turn things around. The science is clear — if we start to phase down our dependence on fossil fuels and commit to a just transition to clean energy now, we can slow the acceleration of the climate crisis and give our planet the opportunity to heal from the damage done by extracting and burning fossil fuels.
It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen if we act before it’s too late. The even better news is that we have a real pathway to force this action — there are hundreds of leaders running for office in communities across the country who are putting it all on the line to fight for the changes we need at every level of government.
As the general election draws closer and closer, our team is committed to building on our successes so far and supporting as many climate champions as we can. But we can’t do it alone.
Look, while we're up against significant challenges this year, it's crucial to remember our strength lies in unity and action. We've set a $150,000 goal this month, but we're barely halfway there, even as we're approaching mid-March. Meeting this goal is critical for maintaining our momentum and laying the groundwork for the policy changes we need to create a sustainable, green future.
Every contribution supports climate champions who are committed to advocating for our planet's future. Can we count on your donation of any amount to help us continue our critical work at the Jane Fonda Climate PAC and take on the greedy fossil fuel industry? [[link removed]]
