Tom Lauderbach
Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation

Unsung Hero Award

Tom Lauderbach’s career in affordable housing spans more than 40 years. As a VISTA volunteer at the North of Market Planning Coalition in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, he was a co-founder of Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC). In 1988, at the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation, Tom took on many development challenges, but importantly, he then began his work mentoring and training staff who would then go on to lead affordable housing development, finance, and advocacy across the region and state. In 2013, he returned to TNDC to lead the development of seven SF Housing Authority properties. At TNDC, Tom spearheaded the organization’s involvement and training curriculum in NPH’s Bay Area Housing Internship Program (BAHIP) and successfully and carefully trained a new generation of housers.
