Gov. Walz shares his family's IVF journey as Democrats look to guarantee access to treatments

Last month, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos created during fertility treatments should be considered children under the law, setting a dangerous precedent for IVF access across the country.

My wife and I went through fertility treatments for seven years. It's no coincidence that we named our daughter Hope. Reproductive care like IVF is personal – to our family and so many others. We’re going to make sure it stays protected in Minnesota.

When Donald Trump’s 6-3 Supreme Court Majority overturned Roe v. Wade, we knew it was just the beginning. That’s why I signed the PRO Act into law last year, making Minnesota the first state to codify reproductive freedom into law since the Dobbs decision.

While the PRO Act protects access to fertility treatments like IVF, the ruling in Alabama proves we cannot take anything for granted.

Make no mistake: As long as I’m governor, Minnesota will continue to be a beacon of reproductive freedom. But absolutely none of our work is possible without you and the support you give us, year in and year out.
