This study explores the history of Americans' birthright of liberty. We teach our children social studies, above all history and civics, so they can know what liberty is, where America's ideas of liberty originate in the long history of Western civilization, how our ancestors achieved their freedom, how our laws, republican institutions, and limitation of the scope of government preserve our liberty, and what they need to do to preserve their country’s freedom. Connecticut’s new Connecticut Elementary and Secondary Social Studies Standards fails entirely to achieve these fundamental goals.

Princeton’s employment of Mousavian in a position suited to shaping public perception and policy towards Iran’s nuclear program is not only detrimental to national security, but cedes academia’s integrity to a hostile regime linked to terrorism and human rights abuses.

We strongly endorse Amendment No. 1—as a beginning of a wider campaign to remove identity-group policy, oppressor/oppressed distinctions, and permanent and unjustified assertions of moral debt from all aspects of American policy. These iniquitous beliefs should have no place in our colleges and universities, our K-12 schools, or in the republic as a whole.

South Dakota should have new Centers in all its public universities, dedicated to teaching students about America’s and South Dakota’s traditions of liberty, republican self-government, and civic virtue. HB 1213, alas, will not achieve that goal.
