“I grew up knowing I was gay, but afraid to be me, so I hid it and pretended it wasn’t true to myself. I so appreciate that The Trevor Project exists to help provide resources for those who find themselves in a dire state.”

** đź“ž TrevorLifeline moves from call centers to 24/7 remote operations
------------------------------------------------------------

With office closures nationwide due to COVID-19, our lifeline call centers underwent a rapid, massive tech transformation to move to remote operations. In addition to going remote for the health of our staff and counselors, we also had to ensure our suicide prevention lifeline remained 24/7 and uninterrupted — especially as the pandemic can add to LGBTQ youth’s ongoing anxieties and uncertainties.

While stress and anxiety are normal reactions, we want to provide some helpful tricks to help you manage these intense emotions.

** đź“Š Substance use disparities by sexual identity
------------------------------------------------------------

Our March research brief focuses on substance use — one of the most consistent risk factors for suicide attempts and deaths. We found that lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth and young adults are significantly more likely to report substance use than their straight peers, and that these disparities persist into young adulthood. These alarming disparities underscore the need for national prevention strategies to be inclusive of LGBTQ youth.
