Minnesota Women Step Into U.S. Congressional Campaigns at Women Winning Event |
At Women Winning’s annual Wine, Chocolate, and Choice on March 7, Congressional Candidates Rep. Angie Craig (MN-1, via video), Sen. Kelly Morrison (MN-3), former Rep. Jen Schultz (MN-8), and Rachel Bohman (MN-1) spoke briefly about why they are running and why they need support from Minnesotans.
“You know what’s at stake — our freedoms, our rights, and our democracy. My mother, who fought for women’s rights in the 1970s, she cannot believe that we’re back fighting. … We must use our power to unite and fight for our rights to make our own choices about our bodies, for reproductive health, for rights to vote, for our rights to marry who you love, for the right to read any book we want. That’s what’s at stake.” |

Rep. Finke Bills Aims to Assist People Who Move to Minnesota After Trans Refuge Bill |
Lawmakers on Wednesday heard two bills authored by Rep. Leigh Finke, DFL-St. Paul — one to allocate $1 million to a nonprofit to assist people who are seeking gender-affirming care in Minnesota, looking for housing and applying for jobs; and the second mandating that health insurers that operate in Minnesota cover gender-affirming care. Finke, the state’s first openly transgender lawmaker, said during a hearing on the first bill that families who move to Minnesota for gender-affirming health care need a “soft landing.” It would assist health workers looking to come to Minnesota to provide gender-affirming care and those who are seeking the care.
