Across dozens of lower income countries, people’s lives are being destroyed by financial giants trapping their countries in unjust debt. In Ghana, one of the 54 countries in debt crisis, people have been on the streets protesting the high cost of living in what has been called “the worst economic crisis for a generation”, brought on by the huge levels of national debt.
It doesn’t have to be this way. The UK government is in a rare position to get debt cancelled for countries like Ghana - because 90% of the debts owed by lower income countries to financial giants are controlled right here, in the UK!
This is our opportunity to make sure whichever party next gets the keys to Downing Street has dropping the debt high on their to-do list – by committing to bring in a debt justice law if they get into power.
