United States Imposes New Sanctions on Iran
On Thursday, the United States imposed new sanctions on the Iranian regime and its supporters, continuing the administration's maximum pressure campaign aimed at forcing Iran’s leaders to end their aggressive and destabilizing behavior.

This includes 20 Iran- and Iraq-based front companies, senior officials, and business associates that support Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps-Quds Force (IRGC-QF), in addition to transferring lethal aid to Iranian-backed terrorist militias.

"Iran employs a web of front companies to fund terrorist groups across the region, siphoning resources away from the Iranian people and prioritizing terrorist proxies over the basic needs of its people," said Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin.

AIPAC Memo: Support Humanitarian Aid to Iran, Not Sanctions Relief
Iran has been one of the hardest hit nations by the coronavirus, with more than 2,000 reported deaths. Amidst this crisis, Iran has neglected to take key steps that could protect its people, opting instead for a public relations campaign against America and continued regional aggression.

Humanitarian aid is exempt under current U.S. sanctions, and direct American offers of aid have been repeatedly rejected by the regime. Despite the rising health crisis in the country, Iran has continued to support its proxies across the Middle East, threatening Israel and American interests.

The U.S. should continue to make clear that it strongly supports the provision of humanitarian aid to Iran with close supervision, while also emphasizing that Iran must end its destabilizing behavior if it hopes to gain sanctions relief.
