Friend,
Warren Buffett is famous for many things, including his statement that he paid a lower tax rate than his secretary.
It was true then and it is true now. The wealthiest Americans have taken advantage of loopholes in the tax code for decades and have effectively stolen hundreds of millions of dollars from our government. At the same time, middle-income earners continue to pay what they owe. We say: No more.
One of the reasons our deficit ballooned during the Trump presidency was his and the Republicans' massive tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations during his first year in office. By lowering their rates and creating other loopholes for tax avoidance, the deficit grew by $8 trillion dollars during his presidency.
For the last three years, Democrats in Congress have worked with the President to get our economy back on track. We’ve passed funding to expand the IRS’ ability to go after wealthy tax cheats and have already recouped over $400 million in owed taxes. We passed legislation that mandates Medicare can negotiate the cost of prescription drugs – saving the country hundreds of millions of dollars. Next, we need to close the loopholes and raise the taxes the wealthiest owe to ensure middle- and lower-income Americans aren’t left with the tab for all government programs.
At every opportunity, Republicans show us how they are more interested in protecting their buddies’ wealth than helping middle- and low-income American families.
Together, we can win back the House and ensure they pay their fair share.
If you’re with us, contribute to my re-election campaign today and support my work to take back the House – starting right here in New York. [[link removed]]
